If you’re a teacher you know what that means. Pre-planning is over and I’ve met my students. All the books are on the desks and ready for Monday morning. Counters are clean and pencils are sharp. Our room is ready.
As in our, I mean my 18 students and I. 18 fourth graders to be exact.
A new year, a new adventure. Learning for them. Learning for me.
I can honestly say I’m ready for this now. Meeting the kids tonight and talking with their parents got me there. If you had asked me a week ago I’d have said no (heck, I was saying no a week ago). I miss my own three little ones dearly when I’m teaching all day. But you want to know something?
I’m a better mother because of it.
That’s right. Being a working mom makes me that much better at being a mom. I appreciate my kids and my family so much more when nights and weekends and holidays are my time for them. Our time together is precious and although it might not be heavy in quantity, it’s heavy in quality.
So come Monday I’ll be spending so much of my time shaping the minds of 9 & 10 year olds while my kids are being loved on by their Nana. But you better believe when 4pm rolls around each day I’ll be heading home to the ones I love.
P.S. Met Tucker’s teacher, Ms. Crenn, today which means I am shopping for school supplies for my own little student now! You can guess what we’ll be doing this weekend to get him ready for his first day of pre-k3 on Tuesday!
