I’m sure you have heard by now, but Google Friend Connect (GFC) will no longer be available to non-Blogger blogs starting in March.
What does that mean? If you only follow me (or the other blogs you love that are self hosted) through GCF, after March, I won’t show up in your reader any longer. I’ve loved making the change from Blogger to WordPress this past summer, but this is a definite downfall.
Many other bloggers think this is Google’s way at achieving world domination, and after their announcement of the end of Picnik I think I’m starting to see that as being true. Why else would they keep closing down things that us bloggers live for? (Yes, I am a blogger that likes to look at the number in my sidebar & see just how many friends “like” me today, ha!).
I think I’m actually looking forward to the fact that I’ll be able to remove the GFC plugin from my sidebar & no longer be aware of the number. In the beginning of blogging, seeing a new reader sign in to the blog was definitely exciting and all I wanted to do what figure out how to keep that number growing. As time as passed, I have gotten into a routine with the blog and do it for me. Not for others. (Although, if you are reading, it doesn’t mean I want you to stop!) I love the interaction & friendships that have been created through blogging. So read on & send your friends to check me out, too.
Are wondering what you need to do to continue receiving my updates in your reader? Check out my side bar to sign up through RSS or through email subscription.
If you are a WordPress blogger, be sure to take the time & do a post like this to keep your favorite readers coming back for more. I’m going to be spending the next month checking my favorite blogs to see which are now going to need me following through RSS as well! Don’t want to miss out on any good reads!
