Yesterday evening though was a different story. After I got home from grocery shopping for the week I packed us a picnic dinner of sandwiches, fruit salad, and cucumbers and we headed to the lakefront. Tucker decided he wanted to enjoy our picnic in the sand by the water. This surprised Mike & I because Tucker hasn’t always been the biggest fan of sand. Totally my kid.
If you didn’t know it was a lake, you would think you were at the beach. The weather was perfect, a nice breeze coming through & we gobbled up our food while playing in the sand & dipping our toes in the cold water.
When we were done eating & not building sand castles (bad momma & daddy didn’t bring any beach toys) we headed over to the playground & took a walk around the boat dock. This is the same lakefront we used to live two blocks from and I definitely miss being so close, although it’s only a five minute drive from our house.
We ended the relaxing evening back at home, flying kites (the kids first time & Mike thinks it might have been his first time, too) in the front yard. Funny story. My mom put a comment on one of the kite flying pictures on Facebook, “Where’s the Barbie?” and at first I had no clue what she was talking about. Then, it hit me. My dad used to tie my Barbies to our kites when my brother & I were little and fly them while I cried & cried. Oh, the torture daddies can pull on their daughters. I’m sure Mike will totally do the same thing to our girls one day.
So…spring break was not really much of a break, but last night? Perfection!
