No Mess Finger Painting

Upon returning home from our vacation to Tennessee, we were met with a wet welcome from Tropical Depression Debby. That’s right, 12 hours in the car and then three days in the house due to rainy weather. And I don’t just mean rain, tons & tons & tons of rain.

On Monday, my brother took Tucker for a  boys day out (even in the middle of a tropical depression because that’s just how we do it here in FL). I knew I needed something to keep the girls occupied and after looking through one of our craft bins came up with the things I needed for some fun, clean, finger painting. I know you’ve probably seen this around, because I know I have, but I still had to share.

I’m really not the fun, messy mom. I don’t let my kids eat just cake at a birthday party, they don’t like chocolate milk because I’ve never given it to them, and when it comes to crafts & playing, I’m all about keeping clean. So this is right up my alley.

Step One: Dig out some sort of paint (this was actually bath paint, it’s all I had on hand & it totally worked), zip lock bags (these are only sandwich size and they worked just fine),  index cards or white construction paper, and tape.

Step Two: If you don’t have white construction paper on hand, improvise. This is where the index cards come in. I taped two together to fit inside the plastic baggies.

Step Three: Put the index cards inside the plastic baggies, don’t seal up yet.

Step Four: Add 2-3 dollops of paint to the index cards on the inside of the baggies.

Step Five: Zip bags shut and tape to the table using painters tape or masking tape.

Step Six: Paint away! I think I saw somewhere they used different dull edged utensils and even stamps to make impressions as well. The girls had fun & we talked about mixing colors to make new colors. They liked that and kept asking, “What blue & red make? Oh, purple?” or “What this make? Oh, orange?”

This was a PERFECT rainy day craft…not that I’m wishing any rain on you (unless you are in desperate need of it) but save this for a day when the kids have been cooped up inside and you won’t regret it! Have something fun to share that we can do with our kids this summer? Be sure to link up! I’ll be showing off some of my favorite linked posts later today & it very well could be you!
