Now that Tucker is a kindergartener, he eats lunch at school. He loves the fact that he gets to bring a lunch box & eat in the cafeteria with all the other kindergarteners every day. & packing a lunch for him is something I’ll probably be doing for quite some time. Out of the three kids, his palate is probably the least adventurous, so trying cafeteria food will probably take awhile (and sometimes I don’t blame the kids, there are days when I think what is on our cafeteria menu looks great and other days, well…)
Coming up with different ideas of what to pack Tucker has been a task of mine since before school started. I made a list on the notepad on my phone of all the different things I could pack him and every day I try to mix it up so each day doesn’t seem just like the one before it. Sometimes it feels like there is only so much you can pack in a lunchbox (and we are only one week into the school year!).
Lucky for me, Tucker is a pretty healthy eater (all three kids are, really) so finding healthy alternatives for him is something I look for as well.
Nature’s Bakery Fig Bars fit the bill. Tucker is a big fan of cereal bars, and although these come with two smaller size bars per package (rather than the one most cereal bars come with), Tucker enjoys them because of how much they favor one of his favorite breakfast go-to’s. We first taste-tested the whole wheat apple cinnamon (if I can buy something in whole wheat, I usually do, so another score for these bars!) and Tucker and Lexie loved them (Lilah isn’t a cereal bar fan, so didn’t even as her to be a tester). I have to admit, I really like them too (I’m with Lilah in this department but they just looked so good I had to try them out).
When it comes to these bars, I personally like the grainy texture in the “dough” part and it seemed to balance the sweetness of the fruit filling out well. These bars are a great addition to Tucker’s lunchbox & Lexie’s snack bag (yes, you heard that right, I have to pack one lunch & three snacks every day! I don’t even know what I’ll do next year when I have to make three lunches & three snacks!).
Nature’s Bakery Fig Bars come in seven tasty flavors (raspberry was my favorite!) and can be found nationwide & online. For a location near you, check here. You can also find them on what I call the “four major social media outlets”: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest.
What is your favorite go-to lunch item for your kid’s back-to-school lunches or snacks?!
