wiww: this week.

It’s funny how I lean on my wiww posts when I’m not tending my blog as well as I should be. I guess because they are fun & easy. This week’s wiww post is themed on what I actually wore this week. Meaning Monday & Tuesday. It was cool on Monday, but I wanted to mix the outfit up a bit. I think the wedges are fun with the long sleeve top. & on Tuesday I wore the two tops that I haven’t worn in a while with one of my new favorite skirts. But, this makes me realize that today is only Wednesday. Man, it’s felt like a really long week over here.

Outfit one: Top-Target, Skinny capris-Old Navy, Wedges-Target. Outfit two: Top-I think the tank is from Target and not sure about the other, Skirt-Target, Necklace in both: my creation from The Crafty Social.

Momma Fancies: Moore from Katie

It’s been quite sometime since I shared a little Momma Fancies feature. I thought today would be a good day for me to take a break, enjoy my family and all I’m thankful for (and a little left over turkey), and hand the reigns over to someone else.

MooreFromKatieMoore from Katie is a blog written by new mom, Katie, full time mom and part time blogger. After giving birth to her daughter, she realized a few things she’s very passionate about: researching and writing about pregnancy, nutrition, fitness and overall health for women. Her blog is centered around these topics, her life in general, and a little baking, fashion, and DIY.

So what does Katie have to share about being pregnant and staying healthy?

Being Nutritious is A Great Way to Live

When I found out I was pregnant my husband and I were extremely excited, but we also had a ton of questions. The hubby and I knew the best way to make decisions for our unborn baby was to be thoroughly educated on all of our options and choices. Along with education, awareness was another trait we wanted to posses. Questions about pain management, delivery options and cord blood banking are a few of the things we made sure to get answers to so we could make informed decisions. We turned to our parents, other family members and friends for advice, tips and tricks to help ensure I was healthy, educated and had a great pregnancy experience.

In fact, I was influenced to eat a healthy diet full of vitamins, minerals, and fiber because a friend told me how great she felt during her pregnancy when she ate right. I decided I had nothing to lose by eating nutritious foods, only everything to gain. When my husband and I decided to begin our family, we made sure to find healthy alternatives to my pregnancy cravings, and I am so thankful that we did.

My pregnancy cravings consisted of sweet and salty. Sometimes all I wanted was a donut, (or three) and other times I wanted nothing more than to dig into a bag of potato chips and lick the salt off my fingers with pure happiness. However, I knew that doing that would not be good for my own health or the health of my baby. Although I would have a donut or a handful of Lay’s every now and then, I chose not to give in to these temptations and fully indulge. I decided to make healthier decisions and indulge sparingly. When I craved sweet foods I would eat fruit. Fruit is so full of vitamins and minerals, and I learned that fruit with a little chocolate hit the spot when I wanted something sweet. Chocolate covered strawberries became a fan favorite for me, and my husband! For breakfast I would have wheat toast with honey on top. Yogurt dipped raisins are also a delicious snack.

When I craved salty foods, I ate a lot of herbs. I enjoyed making vegetable pizza using a little bit of olive oil instead of sauce and cheese. I added zucchini, colorful bell peppers, onion, pineapple, and lots of herbs. I love basil, rosemary, oregano, and thyme, they all made my pizzas taste salty and delicious, without adding tons of salt. I knew I needed plenty of calcium when I was pregnant as well but I have never really liked milk. When I needed to have some calcium, I mostly ate yogurt. Sometimes I would indulge in frozen yogurt or a low-fat chocolate milkshake to satisfy my sweet tooth and my calcium needs at the same time!

I also exercised quite frequently throughout my term. I walked at night with my husband and would do 30 minutes of prenatal yoga some mornings. Since restless legs are common in pregnancy, walking in the daytime with my mom or a friend was a great idea, too. It helped to prevent me from experiencing restless legs and it helped tire me out enough to fall asleep quickly at night. I felt energized, healthy, happy, and everyone told me I had a beautiful pregnancy glow. Giving birth was not easy by any means, but because my body was already strong I felt like it went as smooth as it could have. My muscles were strong, my body was prepared, and my nutritious choices helped to make me feel less stressed and less anxious about giving birth.

I am thankful to have had the knowledge and support of my friends and family because it was not always easy to resist temptation by myself. All in all, a healthy diet and a good exercise plan helped make pregnancy a great experience for me, rather than the sluggish experience it could have been if I’d chosen to eat poorly.

Momma Fancies

Man, am I horrible at featuring some of my favorite posts lately. I guess it’s good if I get at least one Momma Fancies in a month, because that’s about as good as I’m doing lately. I need to plan ahead, and work on the post little by little during the week, instead of waiting until Sunday morning to do it all. Sunday morning when I want to just rest & relax (well, most Sunday mornings. Today, crazy me offered to mow the front yard for the hubs, no resting & relaxing here).

I may feature a few more than five posts this week, seeing as I haven’t featured any in quite some time. Remember, if you’re featured, grab the button below and share on your blog as well!

  • The kids and I started decorating the house for Spring yesterday. We made a plastic egg garland for above one of the windows and when I had Mike go pull out all of my other Easter/spring goodies, he came up empty handed. Somehow, he’s misplaced all of my spring stuff, minus one lonely devilled egg platter that I usually display on a plate stand. This means I’m in need of some decorations and when I saw this tutorial I knew it would be perfect! Now I just need to make a trip to Michaels or Joanns for the birdhouse and wooden circle because I think I have everything else. Kara at Mine for the Making always has such adorable, easy, & affordable DIY tutorials!

  • When I saw this party idea from Jen at Denton Sanatorium I just about died! I love how simple & easy it is (Jen is momma to seven so simple & easy is just her style it seems!) and the kids seemed to have absolutely loved it! I am totally doing this at Tucker’s 5th birthday party in October!

  • Who else hates the fact that your shower curtain liner seems to be in constant need of replacing? Melissa at 320 Sycamore shared this tip just in the knick of time for me, because I had just added “shower curtain liner” to my shopping list this week. I am totally trying this out instead. It’s all those little pennies saved that can add up in the long run, and not having to buy a new $5 shower curtain liner every few months surely will add up over time!

  • Chalk art should be my best friend with all the chalkboards we have going on in our house. I actually am in need of putting a fresh coat of chalkboard paint on the kitchen fridge and once I do, I’m going to try something like this out. Rachelle of Fingerprints on the Fridge shared her love of chalkboard art this week, and I totally agree with her on  how pretty & simple it can be!
  • Oh! This blog is another one that shared their love of chalkboard art this week as well. This kitchen is actually the reason why we started our kitchen renovation (that I promise to share the start of this week!) because I love every.single.thing about it! If I could copy & paste it all into our kitchen, I would in a heartbeat!

  • We love anything buffalo chicken in our house. Buffalo chicken dip & buffalo chicken pizza are two of our favorites, oh, and of course some good ol’ buffalo chicken wings. I stumbled upon this recipe for Mini Buffalo Shrimp Puff Pastry Pizzas this week from Jessica at How Sweet It Is and cannot wait to try them out. Maybe for our next Girls Night or something?!

  • This family? The most adorable family to ever live I’m sure. Ryan & Kylee just had their first child, a sweet baby girl they named Eden. I’ve been following Kylee’s blog for a little over a year now and just love it & them! They are the cutest couple and seriously have got to be the cutest family now! Their little girl is a gorgeous redhead just like her momma & daddy and the video they put together of her birth make me remember every single moment of the day Tucker was born, the moment when we went from being a couple to being a family. So sweet!

  • Last, but not least, if you are a mom of multiples, head on over to Kelly’s Korner. This week she hosted a link up in her Show us your Life (SUYL) series for moms of multiples and there are so many great blogs participating! I know, when I was pregnant with the girls (or after we had them and they were in the NICU) I scoured the internet looking for others in our situation, and this is a great resource for anyone doing that same thing now!

Momma Fancies

Momma Fancies

I’m a complete slacker on my Momma Fancies posts lately. All I can say is, I’m sorry. My kids love, love, love cereal bars. Okay. They love all food really. Tucker & Lexie though, really do like cereal bars. Tucker always has one on the way to school on Tuesdays & Thursdays (yes, I’m thatContinue Reading

Momma Fancies: Bad Blogger Edition

I’ve been a bad blogger as of late. So much for the BlogHer NaBloPoMo challenge for the month of January, you can be certain I wont be signing up in February. Yesterday should have been my weekly (ok, as weekly as I can ever seem to get is maybe every other week lately) Momma FanciesContinue Reading

Momma Fancies, better late than never.

The last few months I haven’t been so great about keeping up with my Momma Fancies post. I love this post, because sharing what I love best from blog reading is fun to do, but sometimes I simply forget. One of my resolutions is to keep up with Momma Fancies & quite possibly start What’sContinue Reading

Momma Fancies

I wasn’t sure I’d get to do this post today because our internet has been out most of the morning. Yesterday was the much talked about Christmas Shower for my future sister (lots to post on it later) so today has been a lot of resting & relaxing. Mike is actually running a few errandsContinue Reading

Momma Fancies

There is so much to fancy this week that I don’t even know where to begin! Obviously there are a ton of super cute & creative crafts rolling around the blogosphere with the holiday season now upon us, so a lot of what I’m fancying are those. These Christmas signs from Tattered & Inked areContinue Reading

Momma Fancies & a little catch up.

No, not ketchup. Although my kids really do like that stuff. Catch up time. I’ve been a little lazy with the blog this weekend and now not only have to do my little Momma Fancies feature but catch up on two days worth of my 30 Days of Thankfulness and remember to do one forContinue Reading
